Alex Dehgan: on science diplomacy, conservation & optimism in science

On May 5th, Science Soapbox traveled to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for their second annual Science Diplomacy Meeting. We spent the day soaking in a dearth of fascinating projects and meeting dozens of kindred spirits. We also had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Alex Dehgan, co-founder and CEO of Conservation X Labs. In his previous life, Dr. Dehgan served under numerous science diplomatic positions, including Chief Scientist & Director for the Office of Science & Technology at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Taking advantage of Dr. Dehgan’s wide range of experiences, we chatted about diplomatic relations with Iran, conservation, and the perfect union of optimism in science and global development.
